Waite Park Wesleyan Church
An independent work under the direction of Rev. E. G. Gearheart culminated in the organization of the Waite Park Wesleyan Methodist Church on April 22, 1936. The group of 38 charter members was organized by Rev. J. B. Clawsen, President of the Wisconsin Conference. The church was received into the Iowa Conference on July 27, 1939. A frame tabernacle, later used as an educational wing, was the place of worship for several years. Construction was dedicated on February 19, 1950. The superstructure of the new building was started in 1953. In 1943, while Rev. Clarence Budensiek was the pastor, a parsonage was purchased. However, in 1959, the present parsonage was built next to the church. Under the leadership of Rev. Thomas Phillippe, another building program was launched. A three-story brick building valued at $152,000 was dedicated on September 18, 1966. The new unit doubled the seating capacity of the sanctuary and provided a large fellowship hall, classrooms, restrooms, pastor's study, a large fireside room and an apartment unit. The current congregation, under the leadership of Rev. Duane Fisher, has been successful in reaching out to several different ethnic groups that compose the Minneapolis new immigrant populations.
